Boccherini: Stabat Mater. Aria Accademica. Symphony No. 18
Barbara Frittoli / Orchestra I Virtuosi Del Teatro Alla Scala / Mattia Rondelli
Boccherini composed his Stabat Mater in 1781, undeterred by the fame already won by Pergolesi’s setting of the text. Here Barbara Frittoli brings dramatic force and vocal warmth to this work for soprano and strings, supported by the mellow sound of the Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala under Mattia Rondelli. The programme is completed by related works that place this moving score in broader context.
