This autobiography or Eduardo Zayas-Bazán Loret de Mola, recounts for posterity and for his descendants his life as a young man in Cuba, his Bay of Pigs experience, and his life in the United States. The vivid events narrated in these memoirs will give the reader an insight into what Cuba was like before the advent of the communist revolution and its aftermath. Eduardo Zayas-Bazán, scion of old families from the City of Camagüey, Cuba, formerly Puerto Príncipe, is Professor Emeritus of Foreign Languages from East Tennessee State University (ETSU), Johnson City, TN. In April of 1961, he participated in the Bay of Pigs Invasion as a frogman, was wounded and captured, and spent one year in prison. He was Chair of the Foreign Language Department at ETSU (1973-1993). In 1985 he became the first Cuban American President of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. In 1990 he was co-founder of the National Association of Cuban American Educators. Zayas-Bazán is co-author and co-editor of nineteen books, among them his popular textbooks ¡Arriba!, Conexiones, and Fusión. He is also the co-author of a historical novel, "El pez volador", and its original English version, "The Flying Fish".
