This Book includes a recent development in the chemistry of 2-Iminothiazolidin-4-one. Structure, basicity, synthetic aspects, reactions, and applications were also reported. Thus, the reaction of 2-imino-4-thiazolidinone with ?,?-unsaturated ketones, malonic acid, 1,2-bis(chloromethyl) benzene, 4-chlorabenzyl chloride afforded 5,7-Diphenylthiazolo[3,2-a]pyramidine derivative, 2H-thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine-3,5,7(6H)-trione, 3-oxo-thiazolo[3,2-c][1,3]benzodiazepine and diarylmethylation products, respectively. Oncemore, the formylation of 2-imino-4-thiazolidinone (5) with DMF/POCl3 (Vilsmeier-Haack) via halomethyleniminium salt afforded the 4-chloro-5-formylthiazole derivative. Some These reactions were proved by quantum mechanical calculations (using the PM3-semi-empirical MO method).
