Both of Sam's parents have passed away, and as a high school senior he now faces the most critical point in his life without a familial structure to lean on. Lacking any true parental voice of reason, he has developed hatred for a bureaucratic adult world that he feels has screwed him. Having bounced around from one foster home to another, he is convinced that the only way he can escape a dead end existence in his small town is to earn a college basketball scholarship. However, the odds are stacked against him as he and his teammates must overcome a series of obstacles (not the least of which is their own shoot-themselves-in-the-foot behavior) in their quest for a state title. As the season unfolds, Sam finds himself having to contend with his own schizophrenic demons, physical injury and a head coach that he is sure is blackballing him. Can Sam and his teammates find success on the court and capture the attention of college recruiters? Or will Sam have to rely on divine intervention in order to escape the purgatory that has become his life? It's "Animal House" meets "Hoosiers" when these Hardwood Hellions take to the court.
